AFTERNOON TEA WITH A TWIST - THE PLAYBOY CLUB

Afternoon tea is a great British institution that I adore, just like fish & chips and good old Queenie, so when I was recently invited to sample the afternoon at the Playboy Club, I jumped at the chance. But this isn't any old afternoon tea, this is an afternoon tea with a twist - an alcoholic, bunny earred twist.

Before we get into it I have to be completely honest, when I first thought about the Playboy Club, my visions bordered on the side of ‘tack’ - but I couldn't be further from the truth. The club itself is remarkably classy. The downstairs bar where the tea is hosted is filled with plush white sofas, black and white photos on the wall and low lighting. We were sat at the back facing the bar, where our waitress Katie, explained the concept of the Playboy afternoon tea and asked us to choose one of the four teas, specially created by bar man extraordinaire Salvatore, which instead of your traditional earl grey actually come in the form of cocktails.

Tom chose a ‘fruity’ offering whilst I plumped for ‘spicy’ – but there’s also a floral and classic option on the menu. They were both delicious, and not for the faint hearted. Tom's was very strong – certainly no denying these were alcoholic cocktails!

The afternoon tea itself is made up of a selection of savouries and sweets. My favourite was the tomato and basil bruschetta, and as there were three of each of the savouries I got to have two! Also on the menu is your traditional egg mayo sandwich, salmon blini with caviar and a rare roast beef roll with horseradish.

To indulge your sweet tooth, the tea comes with a delicious selection of desserts including a carrot cake, a bunny earred cupcake and my personal favourite was the strawberry and clotted cream shot glass - aka the de-constructed scone. It reminded me of an Eton mess and was simply delicious. I'd love

I'd highly recommend the Playclub Club and am really glad i've had my perception of Playboy changed. The staff were very attentive and the relaxed vibe in the bar makes it the perfect place to spend  a late afternoon/early evening with a friend for drinks.  Afternoon tea is served between 5-7pm, Tuesday – Saturdays and you can book here: http://playboyclublondon.com/club/afternoon-tea
