    I TRIED JAMIE OLIVER'S STEAK-HOUSE. HERE'S WHAT I THOUGHT

    Since Tom and I bought our cottage (and started spending every waking hour doing the renovation work) we haven't really had any proper time together.

    I mean, obviously, we've spent quality time amongst the dust, ripping plasterboard from the walls BUT in terms of 'date nights' - they've been a bit non-existent.

    So a few weeks ago, we decided to have a night away from the DIY, get ourselves dressed up and head off into town to Jamie Oliver's Barbecoa.

    It's one of those restaurants that's been on my list for a while but I've never really got round to. I don't know why - perhaps because it's on the opposite side of London to where we live - or because I always either end up in Madison's or Burger & Lobster when I'm near St.Pauls - but either way, this time there was only one choice and I'm SO glad we finally went!
    The restaurant is located on the second floor of the One New Change development - tucked away round the corner opposite Gordon Ramsey's Bread Street Kitchen. 

    It's a sophisticated affair, with a bright, airy dining room - styled out like a New York steakhouse and some of the most incredible views of St Paul's Cathedral.
    Almost every seat in the house has a breath-taking view of the dome making it the perfect location for a date night or a special occasion with the girls.
    The food and drink are equally as impressive. There's an extensive wine list with reds, whites and roses from all across the globe - plus some brilliant cocktails and craft beers. 
    In terms of food though - you'll want to start off with a loaf of the clay-oven baked bread. 
    It comes with the most incredible, whipped butter and crispy chicken skin.
    Perfect before tucking into a portion of the hot, sticky chicken wings. They're lathered in hot, buffalo sauce, blue cheese, chives and roasted peanuts for that extra bite. 
    For mains, there's options including lemon sole and wood-roasted artichoke - but for me, there's only really one choice; the steak.

    The 8oz fillet is served with a smoked béarnaise sauce, herb salad and the most incredible bone marrow...
    while the Rib Eye weighs in at an impressive 14oz, served with a anchovy, caper and summer herb dressing. 
    For sides, you'll want to order a portion of chips - chunky, crisp and fluffy in the middle
    Get yourself a portion of the greens too - topped with crispy shallots and swimming in a gorgeous creamy sauce
    Oh - and you can't forget the roasted carrots. They're lightly spiced, cooked to perfection, (almost caramelised on the outsides) and packed with flavour. 
    By this point, I had to surrender but it's worth taking a peek at the dessert menu if you've room. There's creme brûlée, eton mess and the decadent 'Snickersphere' combining layers of peanut, praline and chocolate parfait - I've made a note to head straight back there for one ASAP. 

    We really loved our evening at Barbecoa - the food is top-notch and the service is impeccable. I highly recommend you book yourself a table for dinner then head up to Madison's for a drink and more of those incredible views over St.Pauls!

    THERE'S A NEW WAY TO EAT MARS & SNICKERS...AND YOU'RE GOING TO LOVE IT!

    TEQUILLA AND TACOS AT PEYOTITO, NOTTING HILL

    If you asked me to name my favourite cuisine, hands down I'd say Mexican.

    I basically lived off fajitas, burritos and nachos when I was at Uni (which probably explains the rapid weight gain while I was there) BUT it's a real struggle to name you a decent Mexican restaurant in the UK.

    And a lot of that is down to the fact that we don't really do proper Mexican here. Don't get me wrong, I love a good Tex-Mex but there's so more to authentic Mexican cooking.
    Well in step: Peyotito - because they've got it spot on.
    Tucked away behind Portobello Market, they're rustling up the perfect blend of modern Mexican cooking and ultra-fresh cocktails...

    Tequilla is the star of the show - and not just any tequila at that. At the moment they're doing some really exciting stuff with Casamigos, a tequila created and (until very recently) owned by none other than George Clooney!

    It's currently being using to put a new twist on their incredible margaritas - a smokey blend of Mezcal, Casamigos Tequilla and lime. What better way to celebrate National Tequilla Month?

    You can also tuck into a special Tequilla and Taco menu so make sure you order yourself a margarita and some creamy guac and settle in for the feast ahead...
    Starting with the tostada de atun - homemade tostadas topped with thinly sliced yellowfin tuna, salsa macha and guacamole.
    All the tostadas are made by hand, everyday, so they're super fresh! Plus, the salsas and guacamoles are made from scratch using imported Mexican chiles and the freshest avocado available. 
    The taco de res is topped with braised beef, serrano chile, salsa verde and wrapped with a baby gem lettuce leaf. Light, fragrant and packed full of flavour. 
    Next be sure to try the trio of flour and corn tacos. 

    You've got the Taco de barbacoa - a 24 hour braised lamb version with a lightly charred salsa tatemada and the taco al pastor - grilled chicken with homemade adobo seasoning topped with pineapple and white bean puree.
    followed by an incredible fish taco, the Taco de pescado, packed with grilled sea bream, pickled red onion and salsa verde for a real citrus kick. 
    Time for another of those cocktails before you tuck into your pudding...
    For dessert, the marscapone cheesecake is an absolute dream. Crumbly, biscuit base and silky smooth marscapone topped with a cactus fig compote, vanilla ice cream and berries. I could've eaten three. 
    You'll also want to order the bunuelos - crisp Mexican fritter served with fruity seasonal sorbet.
    A fusion of crunchy, soft, hot and cool textures which excites the palate and is the perfect way to round off an epic Mexican feast. 
    You've still got a little more time to celebrate National Tequilla Month with Peyotito and Casamigos down at the restaurant BUT I promise you, this place is definitely one to add to your 'must-go' list at any time of the year!

    A NEW SLIDER RESTAURANT HAS OPENED IN LONDON - AND I CAN CONFIRM IT'S AMAZING!

    OH my beautiful little blog, how I've been neglecting you! Life has been a little bit upside down recently. Work has been insanely busy, we're renovating our new cottage and every evening and weekend seems to be spent either sanding down walls or prising skirting boards off with a crowbar (oh the glamour).  

    But you know, a girl's gotta eat and I've found a new place in London which I just had to let you guys know about ASAP. Grab your jacket and I'll show you around!

    If you're anything like me - when you go out to a restaurant, you'll look at the menu and want to order it ALL (because greedy-problems) WELL at this place you pretty much can. 

    Ladies and gentleman, I give you Bite Me Burger: London's very own slider restaurant. 

    It's tucked away in a little basement in Holborn and it has all the american fast food diner vibes...
    At the moment they're sharing the space with Cha Chaan Teng so there's a flurry of chinese dishes being whisked out the kitchen and the interior is a blend of dark wooden panels and low lighting with little nods to the fast food diner scattered around the main dining hall. 

    They also don't serve alcohol - keeping it like a true fast food joint - so it's all soda and shakes on the drinks menu. 
    But the food menu - that's where all the magic happens. The menu is simple - there's 9 burgers on offer and you can order them in duos (£8.50), trios (£12), quads (£15) or go all in and order a dozen for £59 which comes with fries and drinks!). 

    All the mini sliders are expertly cooked, super juicy and pink on the inside and perfectly charred on the out. It's worth getting a few friends together so you can try a few. I highly recommend:

    The lambtastic - my absolute fav! A luscious lamb burger flavoured with mint, cumin and smoked yogurt, topped with jalepeno, stilton, aioli and watercress. 
    The 'Beef Encounter' - Bite Me's take on the infamous Big Mac...an aged grilled beef patty topped with special burger sauce, American cheese, shredded lettuce, pickles. As close to the real deal as you'd ever get!Hawaiian - aged grilled beef patty slathered with Mezcal BBQ sauce, bacon, Swiss cheese, pineapple. Quirky but really, really good!
    The Bloody Mary - a spicy affair topped with horseradish, onion, cheddar cheese and secret Bloody Mary sauce!
    For fried chicken fans, you've got the Pluck me burer -Buttermilk fried chicken with yuzu mayo, shredded lettuce, pickle. Perfectly crunchy and better than any mini fillet you've had before!
    There's also the BC -  an Aged beef patty topped with cream cheese aioli, bacon, Brie and plenty of crispy onion. 
    And for something a little different, the American hot dog. A true traditional hot dog topped with crispy onions and slathered in tomato sauce and American mustard.
    If you've got room, it's worth ordering a round of fries to share! Cooked skin on in a little rapeseed oil and dusted with pink Himalayan salt - perfectly crisp and extremely more-ish!
    Bite Me gets a big thumbs up from us and do you know what the best part about all this is? They deliver! Either get yourself down there or order them in - ASAP!

    AFTERNOON TEA AT CHI KITCHEN

    I remember going for my first 'Afternoon tea' with my mum when I was about 18. 

    It was a sophisticated affair of buttery scones, clotted cream and traditional cucumber sandwiches and I remember feeling a little bit posh. It's a proper British institution, afternoon tea, but it's massively evolved over the years and now you can find all sorts of weird and wonderful varities across London.

    There's some themed around films and books, there's even one in a bloody double decked bus - and now one of my favourite pan-Asian restaurants is in on the fun too. 
    Do you remember Chi Kitchen? It's the incredibly good value restaurant tucked away in Debenhams in Oxford Street. I wrote about it back in October and it's one of those places that I'm always recommending to people because the food is incredble and the service is top-notch.  
    Well they've recently launched a new afternoon tea offering, combining executive chef Ping Coombes Malaysian roots with traditional Asian flavours, to give this Great British instituion a really modern twist 

    You start with the choice of tea or a glass of prosecco (it's £15 for three courses with bubbles or £12 without)....
    Then a three-tiered serving stand arrives, layered with both sweet and savoury delicacies. The middle tier consists of sushi-style dishes with salmon nigiri and a huge, juicy prawn dumplings which act as the perfect 'starter' dishes...Followed by the fried savouries which act as your main. There's vegetable spring rolls and slices of Taro Cake, a traditional Chinese dish made with taro, a root vegetable that’s popular in Asian cuisine whcih is cooked until soft and mixed with Chinese preserved meats and rice flour, before being steamed and then pan-fried. 
    You've also got my favourite: the Curry Puff, a popular street food snack in Malaysia, made from deep fried pastry filled with potato and sweet potato. Like a little Asian pasty - they're SO good!Finally like any good afternoon tea, you've got a selection of sweet treats, including Cassava Cake - a Vietnamese cake made from grated cassava, sugar and coconut milk; a Pandan Kaya Bun – a Malaysian steamed bun filled with custard and a light Caramel Cheesecake. Delicious!It's super good value and the staff are incredble - it's well worth a visit! You can get the afternoon tea Monday - Sunday between 3pm and 6pm so head over to the webiste to make a booking!
